There is the 'normal' process of 4 years of college, then 4 years of medical school and then, depending on what medica or surgical specialty you want to pursue, another 3-8 years of residency training.
Then there are the unusual processes.
The minimum requirement for getting into a medical school is completion of the required science and math courses, getting a good score on the MCAT exam and taking 90 semester hours of college courses. There are many medical schools that will accept you with these minimums.
You can combine your college and medical school, if you are a strong student. In these programs you can earn your bachelor degree and MD degree in six years.
Then there are schools located in the Caribbean that are modeled after the US schools (but they are not accredited by a US authority) but they can still enable you to get a medical license in the US. These schools do not have summer vacations like the US schools, so the first two years of medical school are actually completed in 16 months.
