I agree with Mick on the current state of kit lenses. A couple of years ago, they were fancy body caps, but Canon and Nikon finally got wise and improved their kit lenses to the point where people would not be grossed out by the results and blame the camera for shoddy images.
Anyhow…
If you are a "beginning " photojournalist, consider an 18-200 IS lens.
If that's too much for your budget, consider the Sigma version.
Do NOT buy anyone's lens of this length without an image stabilizer built into the lens.
Even if this is not the greatest lens Canon makes, I think it will be fine for photojournalism in all but the top level glossy publications. It is certainly adequate for newspaper work. I have other lenses that are better quality, but I use the 18-200 quite a bit for stuff that I have published in the newpaper all the time. The lens is versatile enough that you are prepared for pretty much anything without carrying two bodies or swapping lenses.
See: for actual images shot with the 18-200 lens that were published, just to give you an idea about quality and range.
If you want to check the "More information" on the rest of them, you will see that pretty much all of them fall in the 18-200 range, although I may have been using a different lens on any given day.
Note: I am not a professional photojournalist, but I do manage to get published a few times a month.
It cant zoom in before taking pictures. Youll notice the magnifying glass icon is disabled for taking pictures. I think this is because the camera is already at max res/zoom at 2MP. It you want to zoom in on something u can just take pictures at the highest resolution and then zoom in on them with the viewer. Go to the zoom/rotate option in the picture viewer program and use the outside grey two-way button to zoom in. Its the same button used to adjust the ringtone volume.
You can zoom in before taking movies. There is a zoom factor of up to 10. You can also adjust resolution on both pics and movies before taking.
Zoom would be nice on this phone, but i imagine that the camera is already zoomed in the max amount without lowering resolution.

i cant answer that. i dont think anyone can answer that. but i can say that miniDV is great for editing and picture quality, and better than digital-8. it uses tapes, yes, but anything better than miniDV is a professional format. if you skip tapes all together, itll save you time, but it all depends on what you want to do. you can make edited videos that cut to the point but will take you longer, or you can save some time, and just watch the whole half hour show of little suzie rolling around in her crib. for the best picture quality, get a 3ccd miniDV cam. but its all up to you. if i were you, id go to http://www.camcorderinfo.com. you find a camcorder there that has exactly what you want.

When it rains, it pours, huh, Google? Not even a week after announcing the big multitouch update for its own Nexus One, Google has turned loose a new version of Google Maps that enables pinch-to-zoom support on the Droid. Of course, it was no secret that Android 2.0 had the framework in place to support this kind of stuff — Moto enabled it all by its lonesome on the Euro-spec Milestone — but it looks like this could be the watershed moment where multitouch finally becomes a must-have feature on Android devices across the board, as Moto CEO Sanjay Jha recently suggested would happen. The new version 3.4’s available as a software update in the Market right now, so grab it if you’ve got your Droid handy.

I think you need to go to "Game Modes" and one mode is "Camera Mode" i think : )
Photographs can be rotated either while viewing them in the camera or while viewing them on the computer.
Videos cannot be rotated.
I've used one and it worked well. Certainly optical >> coax will give you superior sound to analog. And it will be surround.

A telesphoto lens tends to be of a fixed focal length and magnification. Zoom lens are similar to the lens you have, giving you adaptability. For example, A 200mm telephoto lens is just that, a fixed 200mm lens where as say a 200-500mm zoom lens give you 200mm through 500mm to play with.
