How Do They Keep Small Meteorites From Striking The Lenses Of The Hubble Space Telescope During Use?

Obviously they have some kind of lid when the telescope isn't being used, but when they are looking at something what keeps little space pebbles from scratching up the lenses, and dust from hazing them over?

The HST does not have a large lens. Instead, it has a primary mirror, since it is a reflector telescope. An advantage of a reflector (among others) is the the primary mirror is at the “bottom” of the tube, farthest away from the opening. This protects it from small dust particles and micrometeors, but its thin metal skin is no protection from larger objects. NASA attempts to track larger objects and route the HST clear of them, but they believe the risk of impact with medium-sized objects is an acceptable risk.

The primary mirror is at the far end of the tube, so anything hitting it had to come from a narrow conical volume. The probability is lower than if it was open to space from all angles, but it’s still a possibility.
They do nothing, since there is nothing they can do about it. The risk is sufficiently low as to be acceptable, especially for an instrument with a finite lifetime.
Hubble is a reflecting telescope, BTW. The main optical elements are mirrors, not lenses.
There is nothing in the Hubble Space Telescope design to protect it either from meteors or other space debris. At the speeds such objects travel there’s virtually nothing that can be done to prevent damage. Instead we rely on the extremely low probability of anything impacting the mirror.

The 51st entry in Charles Messier’s famous catalog is perhaps the original spiral nebula–a large galaxy with a well defined spiral structure also cataloged as NGC 5194. Over 60,000 light-years across, M51’s spiral arms and dust lanes clearly sweep in front of its companion galaxy, NGC 5195. Image data from the Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys was reprocessed to produce this alternative portrait of the well-known interacting galaxy pair. The processing sharpened details and enhanced color and contrast in otherwise faint areas, bringing out dust lanes and extended streams that cross the small companion, along with features in the surroundings and core of M51 itself. If you look at Department of Justice statistics on violent crime in about half of those events where the victim was hurt or killed and they cooperated it did not matter. Along with this I think you also have to consider that most people don't develop their skills to a high enough level and being able to successfully execute something under pressure when their life and safety hang in the balance. This is why awareness and avoidance is so important and along with that the idea of cooperating and using your head rather than relying on your skills if caught up in a situation and I have done that before. At the same time I also know what it is like to act and take a more aggressive course of action and in both of those situations there were other factors that also forced as well as made it possible for me to do so. No two situations are the same and there are so many variables and outside factors beyond your control that along with awareness and avoidance I think for most cooperation and smart, level headed thinking is what is needed and resistance while on the table is a card that should probably not be played unless it becomes apparent that they are going to hurt or shot you anyways.

Maybe your frames aren't strong(tough) enough to hold the glass properly? I haven't heard of this-happening over and over again, but-do you handle them in any way that is different, than, say, I would mine? I am just thinking that maybe, when you take them on and off, maybe you use too much pressure? Boy this is a good one-wished I could help-

The EF lenses will fit. Old lenses are okay–but newer ones have newer design, and are usually better.

They won't work differently.. they won't work at all. They won't stick properly to your eye and it could be painful. They will not correct vision that is for sure. When I wore contacts I put one in 'flipped' and it was pretty uncomfortable.
