I purchased one at Walgreen’s for $12.75 on close out merely as a demonstration for others of what not to buy. Sure, it is much better than what Galileo made, himself, 400 years ago, but:
1) The product is advertised on the box by the magnification it yields. The manufacturer is betting that you do not know that “quality” is based on light gathering ability (the diameter of the front lens, for a refractor telescope, or the diameter of the rear mirror, in a Newtonian reflector) and NOT by the magnifications printed on the box.
2) The mount is totally flimsy. The constant wobbling prevents clear viewing. A good mount should be able to dampen the vibrations after focusing, for example, in about 2 seconds. This one took about 15 seconds or more. And never stopped even with a light breeze. A solid camera tripod would improve the setup 10-fold.
3) The lowest power eyepiece (12mm/50x) exceeds the performance ability of the telescope for nighttime viewing. A general rule is that the maximum useful magnification = 25 x the diameter (in inches) of the lens (or mirror). The 2″ lens x 25 = 50.
4) The eyepieces are poor. Only the very center of them appears to come to focus, with the rest of the image being blurry. And that’s with daytime viewing. I can only imaging the collimation flaws in the optics when looking at stars.
5) The eyepieces are inferior, obsolete 0.965″ barrel diameter. Today’s eyepieces are a universal 1.25″ (and 2″ diameter for highest quality ones).
6) The box shows color images of the Orion nebula and the Pleiades. Color can only be achieved through time-exposure photography with the telescope on an equatorial mount. With VERY few exceptions (such as a 12″ Newtonian reflector), color will NEVER be visible through an eyepiece on any telescope. When color is perceived, it is only when viewing the brightest emission nebula, and then the effect is a slight green color effect.
If you are interested in a telescope, check out your local astronomy club for advice. Avoid any refractor less than 3″ or any reflector less than 6 inches.
a pair of binoculars works better than this telescope. It’s really hard to find the target and does not bring clearer picture than binoculars.
My 7 old son played with it two hours and has not touched for a few weeks. We’ll see it can be used for birds watching.
I purchased this knowing I wanted a bottom of the line disposable product and I was not dissappointed. It is OK for the price as long as you immediately pitch the tripod into the nearest handy active valcano. You are much better off using your hands and a nearby tree or other support. Everything else works just fine for watching wildlife, but I would not expect it to do well for stargazing.
it’s really fuckin hard to sing a song whilst two other people sing two different songs at the same time. congrats, tripod, congrats
yuvarlak ayna nedir ?
I highly recomend atleast an 8 inch dobsonian from http://www.oriontelescopes.com. You could also google orion telescopes. Light pollution filters are worth theye light in gold. There is a verry informitave section about telescopes, just look fir it.
Hi,
You can get both at cheapest prices search engine.
Awesome! I love all NASA’s discoveries, and I hope we’ll learn to see the sky often then we do!
RT Wow, the moon looks totally beautiful tonight. #fullmoon [Don't forget Mars! Telescope night for me, if I have time!]

The most important thing is try to find the darkest place you can. It is amazing how much light pollution there is. Once you are in a dark place you will notice that focusing in not as much trouble.
That comet has doomsday written all over it! Hope that doesn’t happen in real life. If it does, then… WE’RE ALL DOOMED!!!
mmm i guess i have more experience with tripod shooting than some of the other posters. unless you are using a cable release for the shutter, you will get movement even with the camera on a tripod. this will be very evident with telephoto and low iso settings. sometimes a tripod is setup on less than stable footing, like on a boardwalk or on a boat. every day is a windy day in Wyoming, so unless you are hefting a 50 pound tripod, don't expect miracles.
a tripod is not a substitute for VR in every case.
nice unboxing
you are charging your battery in the camera? through the computer's USB port? that's probably not the best idea… USB port doesn't really provide much power to charge a battery efficiently… depending on the size of the battery, might take 2-4 hours to charge it to full power from 0… you really should be using the dedicated charger that plugs into the wall to charge your battery… it should have come with your camera… I'm not sure how large your battery is, but my Sony DSLR battery takes 2.5hours to charge from 0% to 100% with a charger… it says so in the manual but I think it really charges a bit faster in reality… that battery is huge though… your compact camera battery is at least 2-3 times smaller… my Sony compact takes about 30min-1hr to charge with the charger… (usually around 45-50mins)… really use the charger… USB charging is kinda like a bonus that you can charge your camera too while uploading pictures to the computer… but it shouldn't be used specifically to charge the camera…
Are there any telescopes which allow you to connect them to your computer? I would like to put the magnified picture (in real time) that would normally be displayed through the eye piece on the the telescope onto my computer. So i would like to look through the telescope… on my computer. Possible?

I noticed that too. A 166 SA bonus would be insane! As it turns out the bandit only has one level of Rogue.
vivitar was one of the first photo companies to produce digital cameras, it should perform satisfactory.
My camera uses AA batteries rather than a built-in battery pack. i use nickel metalhydride AA batteries that are rechargeable, and have several sets to replace them as they run down. Items which comsume more power are the flash and CRT viewfinder, shutting those off may help get more battery life. You can change batteries and not lose the pictures already taken, they are on a storage card until deleted.
eheheaheahehheheah
which is more abundant, gravity or dark matter? anyone know.
ty i’m looking at buying one soon

Check out the website of Meade. They sell CCD's which you can connect to the eyepice of their telescope and view the image. They also make adapters do you can replace the eyepiece with your lens.

it uses "VGA" quality video which is less than the standard for television. i could find no info on the compression, but the 32 mb standard memory would only hold a few seconds of video at best. even the still photo resolution was listed as "interpolated" pixels, so i don't think the CCD sensor is of high quality. The best that can be said is that it is inexpensive and versitile and getting an email quality picture is preferable to no picture at all.
maybe some wd-40 or 3in1 oil
Vivitar V8018 ViviCam 8.1 MP Digital Camera Review from Sean R Mclean. Too much hassle. I was supposed to be on vacation!, I don’t like writing poor reviews, but I am disappointed with this camera. The pictures are almost always blurry. The time from button down to photo taken is always slow [...]
PatrickYHC posted a photo: March 15, 2010 [126/365] everyone needs a photo with those 3D glasses with the… 3D lenses/filters punched out
got these from watching Alice in 3D today! 3D movies hurt my head. and it sucks wearing two pairs of glasses for 2hours straight! but good movie nonetheless. would’ve enjoyed it more without the 3D
anyway. see that huge block of light on my arm? that wasn’t there on the photo i was gonna upload. i did a retake to get rid of that block… turned out pretty good and sharp and all. but when i was reviewing my photos on the camera after shooting it, i accidentally deleted it… thinking it was this one. lesson of the day: lock all your photos, only delete on your computer. Strobist: SB-600 1/8th power camera right, bare, behind and aimed at subject Vivitar 728 full, softened with paper taped infront of flash head, behind and aimed at subject Pop-Up Flash full power, bounced off sheet of foil onto wall behind camera for fill.
Vivitar is an 'aftermarket' manufacturer. That is, they make lenses that are intended to be used on cameras made by other manufacturers.
If you have a lens, there could be a designation near the base of the lens that suggests the cameras that it was intended for.
Lenses intended for Nikon cameras usually have a small metal 'shoe' mounted on the outside of the lens barrel immediately next to the mounting bayonette. For other cameras, it is necessary to examine the bayonette itself, and the differences are more subtle.
If there are no markings on the lens, you might take it into a camera store where the clerk actually knows something about photography and ask for their advice. They will have to see the lens to be able to answer the question..
You need to use very good batteries, try some rechargeable AAA batteries.
